The Berhan Community Services Society of Edmonton is a non-profit organization established to address the unique needs of new Ethiopian, Eritrean, and other African immigrants and refugees, including the second generation youth and young adults, in Edmonton and surrounding communities, and enable them to thrive in Canada. Berhan offers culturally and linguistically relevant services, including essential skills training, youth mentoring, capacity building and community advocacy services. We also share important information and referrals, to various agencies to help the community grow and excel in the greater Edmonton area.
Berhan recognizes the various barriers and obstacles our community faces and offers solutions. We also combat the hardships that hinder access to various services such as racism, hate, poverty, and language barriers. The association has created and hosted various workshops over periods of time with a particular focus on vulnerable groups such as women, youth, children, and the elderly.
Through these workshops, the association and its staff are not only able to directly engage with the community it serves but hear about their concerns firsthand, concerns they can then amplify and see addressed through current and future initiatives as well as collaborative partnerships with local non-profit, government agencies and community group
